In heraldry, tenné or tawny is a "stain", a rarely used tincture, an orangish brown colour. Some authors (particularly in England) consider it the same as orange, but that is not the case in continental heraldry. In South Africa, tenné is interpreted as orange, although the term "orange" is used as a synonym in some blazons, and it was used in the arms of several government departments and military units adopted before 1994.
